FAQ's

What is LEYCALC?

  • LEYCALC is a free online tool provided by Leybold that allows you to calculate vacuum performance. Visit the website here.

If I register for an account, am I able to save different pump layouts to go back to later or share with colleagues?

  • Yes. This is a huge benefit to making an account.

Where can I view the on demand webinar?

  • Access the webinar here anytime and watch as much as you want!

I saw a lot of different pump types available? How do I know which one to choose?

  • Pump choice can be challenging. We understand there are so many different applications and needs out there. Plus, maybe you just aren't that familiar with how our vacuum pump lineup works. That's OK- we would recommend a conversation with our team of experts to begin understanding what pumps you need based on your process. You can also try our online pump finder tool.

What is a booster pump?

  • Booster pumps sit on top of Fore Vacuum pumps. The basic purpose is to help increase pumping speed. We would be happy to further educate or help on the topic of these pump types.

Does the software make-up for different gases to pump?

  • Only air at the moment.

Is LEYCALC available for a system with oil filled diffusion pumps?

  • Our development team is hard at work providing this feature soon!

I need high vacuum calculations, diffusion, and turbo pumps. What is available for those options?

  • At the present time LEYCALC does not have high vacuum options featured in the tool. However, we do have the ability to perform this in-house for you. You can contact us for more information. The addition of high vacuum products is in the pipeline for the tool. You can also search for high vacuum pumps in our online pump finder tool.

Will smaller pipe diameters be possible at a later stage?

  • Currently, any pipe diameter can be chosen. We encourage you to try out the tool to find out.

How does pump performance change when replacing an oil-sealed rotary vane pump with a dry scroll or other dry pump?

  • This is easily performed using the tool. You can then do the comparisons and plot them out in Excel to see the differences. If you need advanced side by side comparison we are happy to perform those for you as well.

Is there a stainless steel option?

  • We are currently in the process of making the tool even better. Feedback like this is valuable when we add and redefine things. For more advanced cases like this one, our in-house team of experts can certainly help.

I did't see anything additional for gas load, do we need to estimate?

  • Leak rate can be a gas load. Or, you can add gas load to a leak rate for overall flow.

Does LEYCALC take into account a series of parallel pumps?

  • You will need to contact us for such an application. The tool in it's current form is for more basic calculations. We understand everyone has different application needs. We take feedback like this to make the tool better for everyone moving forward.

Does LEYCALC have a list of desorption rates of other materials besides the ones listed in the drop-down?

  • There is potential for more options to be added in the future. For now, we can work with you directly on finding the rates you need and teach you how you can add them in to your calculations.

Does LEYCALC factor in bends or angles?

  • Yes. With it's most recent update you can add bends and valves.

When choosing a pump, is there a way to read the pumping speed instead of the pump names?

  • You can examine the graph result, or refer to our product catalog here.

What about if we have multiple brands of vacuum pumps in our facility, will there be a future add on that will have competitor pumps?

  • Unfortunately, no. However, we do have those available and can work with you individually for a comparison.
